Life is to be Enjoyed

Super Saturday
Yesterday was one of those wonderfully random days when I was just happy all day long. Lots of plans? Lots of friend time? Nope. Just a really good, really happy day for me.

It started off with a run. The plan was to meet my friend (and physical therapist) for a run. We have been trying to plan a rundate for a while now actually. It finally panned out for us. I'll admit to being both excited and nervous to run with her. I've only ever run with two other people. She's training for her first Iron Man (May 19 in Houston, TX) so she's kind of a badass.

I started at my usual spot and met her her the Two Rivers Bridge, which was right at 2 miles for me. A nice warmup. Oh, but warming up was no problem! It was HOT. It was already 77 degrees and insanely humid when I started at 9 am. Hello first sports bra run of the season.

A's training plan called for 19 mins running with 1 min walk. But she decided to just run the full distance up to my usual re-fuel stop, which ended up being 7 miles for me. I refilled my water bottle, took a GU and she ate her Bloks and drank water and we were off again.

I kind of thought with her plan of the walks we'd be walking more, but basically, we ended up walking twice. Once a little longer because I had insane side-stitch. It's so rare for me, so maybe it was the heat getting to me. Or maybe I was talking too much and not breathing enough ;-)

Anyway, it was so nice running with someone who was trying to keep the same pace. We both had a tendency to start talking and speed up, so we had to keep each other in check, but it was perfect. The time really flew by for me, despite the intense heat that was just zapping my energy level.

I swear I was riding a runner's high the rest of the day. I hit 10 miles - hello double-digit club - and it really felt great. This run felt better than last week's 9-miler. I say that...but must say the heat was freaking killer. Last week's run I was actually hurting more with my piriformis. Today, it didn't bother me so much until after the run. So, maybe it was a combination of feeling good physically plus some awesome company, but it was an awesomely good run for me. <---yes runner's high still talking

After the run, I spent about 45 minutes stretching and rolling (and re-hydrating) before getting cleaned up. I felt like a nasty mess. I was covered in salt, sweat, bugs, ick. All the signs of a good run right ;-)

My sister had to fly out of town today, so we had to take her to the airport. I was happy to get to visit with her for a short bit before we had to drop her off. She hates flying quite possibly more than I do, and that says volumes. Anyway, got her off safe and sound and then Jason and I headed to Pizza Cafe for lunch.

Even though it was warm, I really wanted to sit outside and enjoy the day. They have good food and a nice patio with lots of fans, so it was the perfect answer to my two requirements for food and patio. The rest of the day was spent mostly relaxing, being lazy. And that was just perfect.

Sunny Sunday
Today Jason and I went out for a super easy 4-mile run. Again, it was flipping hot hot hot. I guess that at least kept me from wanting to go fast, or far at least.

After the run we got cleaned up and walked down to a new Farmer's Market that they are trying to get going in our neighborhood. It was the first day for it, so it was pretty small - but I still think it's really cool they're trying to do this sort of thing in our neighborhood.

I got some laundry folded, then spent some time lounging in the pool with my friend. Yep, the pool is officially open for the season. Usually we don't get the pool going until the end of May, but the weather has been so warm that we were able to get in today.

I really think lounging in the pool with a good friend and good conversation is just about perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

So, I didn't get tons of chores done, but that's ok in my book. I think having a relaxing, weekend trumps it all. The chores and errands will be there tomorrow.

Daily To-Enjoy List:
  • Running
  • Sunshine
  • Pool time
  • Time with friend
  • Relaxing

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
