Rest Day, Blog Pressure & Spicy White Chili

Rest Day
This morning I packed my bag for the possibility of getting in my 6-mile tempo run. But from the start of the morning, I knew it wasn't going to get done today. I entertained the idea of 3 miles around the neighborhood, but again, knew that wasn't going to happen either.

Basically, I was simply out of gas today. I really had no energy and zero desire to do any type of workout at all, no running, no spinning, no lifting, not even a super short kickboxing. Nada, zero, zip. Done.

I am hoping that today's rest day will help me get back on track tomorrow. It should be a little bit cooler and sunny. I'm hoping the sunshine will just call to me so much that I'll want to get out and start running. Fingers crossed this works in my favor.

So, once again, I'm off schedule with the half training. I was supposed to be hitting 28 miles for the week. I doubt that will happen. Hopefully I'll at least hit 25. I honestly don't know how much the overall weekly mileage plays into the training as much as the long run and the speed workout.

Of course, overall mileage is helping build endurance as well. Hopefully I'm not sabotaging myself. Though, I think I'd be sabotaging myself just the same if I just kept pushing. So, we'll see. And thank you (if you stuck it out) for following this rambling route.

And just for fun, I'll leave you with this image that was sent to me today. I tried to find the original source, but had no luck other than being led to a Facebook page or finding on Pinterest:
Blog Pressure?
Speaking of rambling, I often feel like my blog posts are fairly lame to be honest. I wonder why you all keep coming back. Sometimes I feel like I should be writing more though-provoking, inspiration posts. I read some absolutely incredibly inspiring posts that I feel like mine are pretty superficial.

Take for example just about any post from these inspiring ladies: Dorry @ Living with Healthy Hunger, Lindsay @ Cotter Crunch, Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun, my pal Jess @ EatDrinkBreatheSweat, Janetha @ Meals and Moves.

And my recipes and photography skills are most certainly lacking when you see awesome dishes and photos from the likes of  Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga, Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen, Angela @ Vegangela, or Kris @ Spabettie (just to name a few because there are so many more).

So what do you think? Do you feel pressure to write better posts? Posts that are more meaningful, deeper, more inspiring? Do you feel the urge to come up with better recipes and figure out how the hell to take decent pictures? Or do you just write for you?

Simple Chili Dinner
Since it was a dish mentioned yesterday when debating dinner, I went with that for tonight: Spicy White Chili. I think chili is a nice, uncomplicated dinner. You pretty much cut everything up, dump it in the pot, and let it go. This let me get more laundry done (never ending).

I need to come up with a different chili I think. I always make the same two (either spicy red or spicy white). I always see other recipes out there that include corn or other veggies, and I never think to use them. But, I guess it makes it easy just sticking with what I know we like.

Daily To-Enjoy List:
  • Run (nixed for rest day)
  • Easy dinner

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
