This morning Jason and I managed to get up and out the door for an early morning run. I have decided that I no longer need lungs to run. I need gills. The heat index was already 86 and humidity 90%. It was super foggy out and damp from last night's storms.
I made it 6 miles, but they were rough. I added in a few sprints along the way. Probably not the smartest move since I was already struggling. I never felt like I hit a smooth rhythm. Even taking a drink of my water threw my breathing and everything else off. And the gnats...very annoying when you're soaking wet (sweating from your toes even) and the damn gnats keep buzzing you and sticking to you. Grrrrr.
But you know what? I got it done. Plain and simple. Mind over matter.
At lunch I decided to get in my biceps and abs. I knew I wouldn't have the steam left to get it done after work. I went with a giant set of 3x8 then finished off the workout with a set of 21's (just for fun).
Alternating bicep curls
I did abs from Cathe's High Rep DVD before calling it done for the day.
Roasting vs Grilling
While I was home at lunch, I threw together a quick balsamic marinade for tempeh (balsamic vinegar, OJ, agave nectar, parsley, garlic powder, salt & pepper). I had one lone Japanese eggplant from our garden - not enough for any special dish, but can't waste it. So I went with a Roasted Veggie and Tempeh Wrap with (what else) baked sweet potato fries.
I was going to grill the tempeh and veggies but with a heat index of 108, I decided against that one pretty quickly. I just roasted the veggies as I was baking the "fries."
I made up some quick sundried tomato and roasted red bell pepper hummus. I spread that on a whole-grain lavash sheet and piled on the goodies.
Daily To-Enjoy List:
- Morning run (well, not the best, but got it done right?)
- Easy, veggie heavy dinner
- Clean pupsters to hug on (they got groomed)
