Trying Somthing New - Eating Indian In

Sunday Eating In
After the architectural tour, we went back to the hotel and showered (again). Neither of us had any desire to go back out. I was even ready to forgo dinner just to stay in. Thankfully, we didn't have to do that. Jason saw an add for Grub Hub that lists places that deliver. I did a quick scroll through and an Indian Restaurant (supposedly) popular for vegetarian dishes jumped out.

I never think about ordering Indian to be honest, but went with it. The place was called Reza's. They had a Vegetarian Combo where you could pick 5 items from a list. This was cool because we could try a few different things (we chose: Tabbouli vegetarian shami, Persian salad, Kashkeh Bodemjan, Eggplant steak, String beans). They also had another dish called Vegetarian Feast (Grilled Eggplant, Zucchini, Almond, Raisins, Cranberry and Feta cheese on bed of couscous).

Sorry for the crummy pictures - hard to make the food look good in aluminum LOL.

I think the string beans and the eggplant were the most flavorful of the items we tried. I wasn't keen on the kashkeh bodemjan (too much mint) or the Persian salad (cucumbers so I can't remember why I wanted to order it).

The Vegetarian Feast was good, but a little bland. But maybe that was how it was supposed to be? I couldn't taste the cranberries at all and never saw an almond. But, at least we didn't have to leave the room AND we tried something new.

Monday
Today I really had to tear myself out of the bed. There was no way I was going to get up any earlier than necessary to workout. I had some oatmeal then headed next door to the class. I feel totally unfocused and out of sorts today. I haven't been sleeping as well as I thought I was. Of course, I've been doing an ass-load of walking and am so incredibly off any normal eating schedule. So out of sorts makes sense.

I am really starting to get homesick at this point as well. I am desperate for a home cooked dinner, my own bed, my own  freaking toilet paper that isn't 1-ply. And to pet the pupsters right now would make my day. Thankfully Jason is with me or I might skip class and hop on the next plane home.

Hopefully it's just the Monday blahs even if I'm not going to work exactly. I will say that I enjoyed a fantastic vegan dinner at the Chicago Diner and we went to a Cubs game after.

It's getting late, and downloading pictures is painfully slow, so I'll do a recap of the dinner and game tomorrow. My tummy is still full!

Daily To-Enjoy List
  • Vegan dinner
  • Cubs game (first MLB game actually)

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
